Back in June 2015, we were approached by a designer with a bit of a crazy idea. Benny Magennis from WhackPack furniture had a plan to rid people’s lives of flatpack hideousness, and wanted a little bit of Acmhainní magic to help him do it.
Benny’s flagship creepie stool is a fun, functional, stylish piece of furniture that’s suitable for all ages – and uses ‘bodging’, and old Irish carpentry style to make sure that self-assembly furniture doesn’t need to be an ordeal. Instead, you need a mallet, a wedge, and some old-fashioned whacking. Whackpack furniture had been born.
Benny set himself the lofty task of raising €15000 on kickstarter in order to get himself going. “Difficult”, we thought, “but not impossible.” – Particularly as Benny had already had his camera out and shot some footage to tie his ideas together. What he needed help with, was making it all make sense. This footage really let us see who Benny was, what he was trying to achieve, and more importantly, the space he was trying to achieve it in.
Acmhainní Teoranta duly set to work in further refining a concept for a video that told Benny’s story in his own words, and explained the simplicity of his idea to the world. We interviewed Benny, and got to spend a day in his workshop with the cameras rolling.
Armed with the footage, and a script we cobbled together, we called in a few favours, including from none other than Aoibhinn McGinnity (“Love/Hate”, “The Trial”), and The Whackpack furniture story soon came to life.
We also produced several short explanatory pieces for social and other media, and before you know it, Whackpack furniture had smashed its way through its Kickstarter funding target, and sent Benny well on his way.
It just goes to show, whether you’re a budding SME with a great idea, or a multinational corporation who want to shout to the world about what you do, Acmhainní Teoranta can help once you’ve got a story to tell.
If you would like to find out more about how we managed to do it, or even how we could do it for you / your brand, why not contact us, and we can discuss it further?
